Beyoncé OKs Kamala Harris’ Use of ‘Freedom’ as an Official Campaign Song

Feeling her “Freedom,” Kamala Harris receives an official nod from Beyoncé. The energetic anthem from Beyoncé’s 2016 “Lemonade” album welcomed the presumed Democratic presidential candidate to her campaign headquarters on Monday night (July 22).

CNN subsequently revealed that Harris had obtained the singer’s express consent to use the song on the campaign trail just a few hours earlier.

According to an anonymous source close to Harris, Beyoncé’s camp permitted Harris’ team to perform “Freedom” not just on Monday night but “during her presidential campaign,” “just hours before she walked out to the song,” according to a CNN story.

Although Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, has already publicly endorsed the vice president’s elevation to the presidency, Beyoncé’s official approval of the song will undoubtedly be interpreted as tacit support.

In addition to playing at Barack Obama’s second inauguration in 2013, the singer supported Hillary Clinton for four years before endorsing the Joe Biden/Harris ticket in 2000.
