A Brooklyn School Backed by Jay-Z Said Students Could Graduate Debt-Free. Now They’re Buried in it.

The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment at Long Island University (LIU) faced criticism from students who allege they were misled about the program’s debt-free promise. Several students from the inaugural class claimed they were left with unexpected student debt despite initial assurances of full-tuition “Hope Scholarships.” Some students incurred thousands in charges for fees, housing, and other costs not covered by the scholarship. Additionally, students expressed disappointment with the program’s resources and delivery, citing missing facilities and unfulfilled promises of celebrity appearances. While LIU clarified that the scholarship only covers tuition, students are calling for greater transparency and accountability as the school moves forward.
