Within three months of filing a lawsuit against Beyoncé and Sony Music over samples from her chart-topping smash “Break My Soul,” the case was withdrawn.
The voluntary dismissal ends a unique lawsuit in which Da Showstoppaz, a small New Orleans band, claimed Beyoncé utilized their music without permission in “Break My Soul,” even though she properly cleared the song she sampled.
Court documents did not indicate a settlement agreement, so the lawsuit might have been abandoned unilaterally. Both sides did not immediately comment on the case withdrawal.
Da Showstoppaz sued Beyoncé (Beyoncé Knowles Carter) in May for infringing their 2002 song “Release A Wiggle” on “Break My Soul,” a megahit that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in 2022.
